Do you know more about the church than you know about God?

To know about the church often just takes some head knowledge of a historic Jesus, with very little vision of the living God, who wants to be intimate with His people, His Bride. Church people often know the rules and regulations, how to be a good member of the church, how to win and influence people and what doctrines their church teaches.

To know God intimately, as a bride eventually knows her bridegroom, is an altogether different story. When we know God intimately, we will know His ways, and the ways He works in and through other people. God’s heart is to show us how we need to be, and also how He wants to operate in the lives of others. That makes us different than the ordinary church-goer who is mostly concerned about the church and its activities or programs.

How God’s presence comes into a deep rest, in a believer, is sometimes hard to describe, for it is a spiritual marvel. Through growth or discipline processes He allows, we find ourselves arriving at a place where not much can shake us up anymore. Yes, we may get a bit shaken temporarily, but then find His peace will come like a flood. By that I mean, we are able to go on with peace in our hearts in spite of the difficulties around us. It is because we know Him- heart to heart. Ex. 33:14 ( NIV) “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Our modern day church goers are a lot like the children of Israel were, they are worried, anxious about the future, murmuring and complaining. They have seen God do some great miracles of provision, healing, (even) supernatural wonders, and have seen His protection-yet they do not know His ways of love, His emotions and the way He operates. The children of Israel were like that, they saw God do incredible supernatural miracles, yet they did not know His ways. They didn’t know His plans and steps; all they knew were the works of God. It looks like they only followed Him so they could be blessed and be comfortable and for what they could get out of God.

Listen to Hebrews 3:10 (KJV), “Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, they do alway err in their heart; and they have not known My ways. So I swear in My wrath, they shall not enter into My rest.” From this verse we can see that it is all about a heart issue- our heart and His heart.

Amos 3:23 (KJV) says, “You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your sins. Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”

God intends for us to walk in agreement with Him, this means I may know His plans and ways for me, right? What an awesome God we have. He chose us and now He desires to walk with us and make His ways known to us. All we need to do is get out of the way.

I hear Jesus say:” My love for you is solely based on my finished work on the cross, anything you try to do or be to deserve this love is in vain and an open gorge that can never be filled. You may rest in the fact that I love you just for who you are and nothing can change that, not even all the good things you try to do for me, unless I do it through you. My hands are reaching out to you so you can walk with me be grace alone.”
